Keeping your carpets clean can be a challenge—especially when tough stains like blood, paint, and pet urine make their way onto your floors.

The good news is, Delta Chem-Dry can help get rid of them for good with premier stain removal and protection in Los Angeles. Between our visits, here are some insider tips for keeping unsightly stains under control in your home.

#1 – Blood

Act fast by using cold water to rinse the stain. Next, use a cleaning solution of 2 tablespoons of dishwashing liquid in cold water. Oxi-Clean is also highly effective on blood carpet stains

#2 – Ink

Dip a clean cloth in isopropyl alcohol, then gently dab over the stain. Be sure not to rub too hard as this will push the stain further into the carpet fibers. Nail polish remover may also work well. Whichever option you choose, be sure to test a small area of your carpet first, and when you’re finished removing the stain, rinse the area clean with warm water.

#3 – Pet Urine And Odors

Pick up or gently blot as much of the stain as possible. Afterward, try a pet stain remover that contains ammonia and specifically states it’s safe for pets. A homemade solution of warm water and vinegar followed by a sprinkling of baking soda can also be effective.

Keep in mind that to keep pet stains and odors under control permanently, it’s important to schedule a professional pet urine odor removal treatment at least on an annual basis.

#4 – Water Soluble Stains

For things like wine, chocolate, or vomit, try a solution of 1 cup water and 1 tablespoon ammonia or 5 parts water with 1 part chlorine bleach. If you have a wool-blend carpet, use only gentle soap and water.

#5 – Oil, Wax, Fat, Or Gum

Place ice over gum or wax stains, then pick out the stain using a knife once it dries and vacuums any remnants away. For wax, oil, or fat, place a soft towel over the stain then iron over it, so the stain sticks to the towel.

#6 – Glue

Dip a cotton ball in rubbing alcohol then gently blot it over the stain. Wipe any remaining glue away using a soft cloth.

#7 – Coffee

After you’ve absorbed as much of the stain as you can with a towel, use a cleaning solution of 1 ¼ cups water and ¼ cup bleach. Rinse the area when finished. Again, be sure to test a smart portion of your carpet first. If bleach discolors your carpet, schedule professional stain removal, and protection instead.

#8 – Washable Ink Or Latex Paint

Apply a small amount of cleaning solution containing ¼ teaspoon white vinegar and 32 ounces of water. Use a small amount at a time and repeat the process as needed until the stain is gone.

#9 – Alcoholic Beverages, Cola, Dyes, And Food

Make your own cleaning solution using white vinegar and water or use a store-bought stain remover like Oxi-Clean or Resolve.
